Relationship Therapy & Sex Therapy, New York City

I maintain a consulting practice in New York City, working with individuals and couples. I also work with clients who live outside my area using video teleconference via Skype or iChat.

My practice includes ongoing therapy with both couples and individuals, plus, I specialize in short-term Intensives for couples.

An Intensive is a bit like a private workshop for just the two of you. It is highly focused and directive, designed to provoke radical shifts in self-awareness, knowledge and perspective in a relatively brief period of time. Sex therapy intensives may also include what is often known as "sex coaching," but will also go more deeply into issues that only a trained psychotherapist is equipped to explore with you.

I have been in practice for over twenty years as an individual psychotherapist, a relationship therapist, a sex therapist, sex educator, and sex coach. If you'd like to know more about the differences in training and expertise between a "regular" couple's therapist, a certified sex therapist and a sex coach, my article on the subject can be found here.

I am experienced and comfortable working with all forms of personal, relational and sexual styles–from traditional to alternative. Everyone is welcome in my practice and labels need not apply. My style is warm, open, and direct. A close colleague once said that she refers people to me because I am both “compassionate and tough.” I might have said "straightforward"-- but that may be splitting hairs. Either way, the description fits.

If you’ve been thinking about a consultation session for yourself or with your partner, feel free to contact me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. For general information about sex therapy, as well as about how it differs from other forms of therapy, counseling or sex coaching, and to learn about the qualifications you should expect of anyone who describes themselves as a sex therapist, please visit my Joy Spot video site and have a look at: "What is Sex Therapy."

If you are outside the New York area and are seeking therapy, I can easily work with you via Skype, or I can recommend another therapist in your locale who is certified by the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists. AASECT certified sex therapists have exceptional expertise in the area of sexual health and functioning and are skilled relationship and individual psychotherapists, too. AASECT is the premier certifying body for sexuality professionals in North America and maintains exceptionally high standards for inclusion. The AASECT website offers lists of certified professionals in your geographic area.
